Welcome to the First
Kilraughts website.
If this is your first time to view this site please
take some time to open all the right web pages and get
as full a picture as possible of life in a Presbyterian
church such as ours placed as we are in North Antrim.
Some people will be familiar with us and we are
pleased you use these pages to find out more about the
congregation. A number of new families have joined
the congregation over the past couple of years and we
are pleased to welcome all. We seek to be an active
and growing community and we wish to reach out in our
district with the message of the good news of Jesus
Christ. We try to be warm and winsome in our approach
and should you wish to join for worship on a Sunday
- you will be made most welcome. Most Sundays
we have visitors with us. Our organisations as
detailed else where are staffed by a willing and enthusiastic
band of helpers. We owe a tremendous gratitude
to all who give their time on a voluntary capacity for
this church and community that they love.
Over the past couple of years the issue of lignite has
hung over North Antrim like a dark cloud. If this
were to go ahead it would have serious implications
for 1st Kilraughts church and a number of other churches
in the district. Our delightful manse with its
attached farm would cease to exist and the area would
change from pleasant country side to the appearance
of an open cast mine. This is inconceivable to
us. A number of our members have been to the forefront
in the local committee which is vehemently opposed to
Lignite Mining in North Antrim. At this time we
are still unsure what the outcome will be - but this
remains one of our chief concerns. Log on to www.justsaynotolignite.com for
more details.
Some people have made contact in relation to seeking
genealogical information. Please note that such
inquiries are to be dealt with at the
Public Records
office in Balmoral Avenue, Belfast BT9. A decision
was taken by the church committee to have our records
microfilmed to facilitate those wishing this information
without having members of the congregation to spend
time dealing with requests.
Please feel free to browse
and learn a little about this historic congregation. Perhaps you
will come along and pay us a visit, or contact us at firstkilraughts@supanet.com.
